Summary of TAC film materials in polarizing film materials and their major domestic and foreign production enterprises

TAC film is an important component of polarizing film. Due to the easy water absorption and fading of the polarizing layer made of PVA film, the polarizing performance is lost. Therefore, a layer of TAC film with uniform optical properties and good transparency should be used on both sides of the PVA film to isolate moisture and air and protect the polarizing layer.
The composition of TAC film is complex, including plasticizers, cosolvents, wetting agents, lubricants, UV absorbers, etc. There are significant technical barriers in the production and coating processing of TAC film base film. At present, the global market for TAC film is mainly monopolized by Japanese companies, with Fujifilm and Konica Minolta accounting for about 80% of the global market share. China started relatively late in the field of polarizing films, but after years of catching up, some companies in mainland China and Taiwan have also begun to take shape. At present, there are four main companies supplying TAC film for TFT polarizing film, namely Fujifilm, Konica Minolta, Xiaoxing, and Dahui.
Fujifilm was founded in 2006 and is a large manufacturer of TAC films targeting the PVA protective film market. The TAC series film is the main product that accounts for over 90% of the sales revenue of Fujifilm Display Materials Division, but in recent years, the weight of other categories that account for sales revenue has also been increasing year by year. The TAC series films for optical use launched by Fujifilm were developed by the Display Materials Department. The products of the Display Materials Division include TAC thin films ("z-TAC", "wv-b", p-TAC, etc.), TFT films ("wv film" (anti reflection film for enlarging the viewing angle, etc.) and "cv film", and others (phase difference plate liquid crystal urethane film for AMOLED, using TP component internal components).
Konica Minolta Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Konica Minolta) was founded in 1873 and is a major Japanese manufacturer that produces and sells optical films for polarizing plates centered on TAC for LCD displays. Konica Minolta is a giant in PVA protective TAC film. We have launched PVA protected (Outer side) P-TAC, with TAC film as the center of our business. In 2017, Konica Minolta began developing phase difference films for COP and PMMA materials beyond TAC; Starting from 2018, the 60 μ m P-TAC service for television will be reduced; In 2019, Konica Minolta TAC film had an annual production capacity of 31500 square meters.
Konica Minolta's TAC film for LCD polarizing plates has excellent uniformity, transparency, reliable quality stability, extreme cleanliness, and outstanding UV protection characteristics. Konica Minolta's VA-TAC film is used to expand the field of view angle of liquid crystal images by uniformly controlling the phase difference and wavelength dispersion characteristics of the film; Surface treatment TAC film is a thin film with a hard coating layer and functional layer on the surface of TAC film, which has excellent scratch resistance.
Hyosung Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Hyosung) was established in 1966 and is a Korean owned enterprise that produces and sells TAC films for polarizing films. Xiaoxing officially launched Outer PMMA film in 2018, with its P-TAC centered around Korean polarizing plate manufacturers such as LGC and Samsung SDI. Since 2011, it has officially expanded its sales volume. Xiaoxing Optical Film independently develops and produces triacetyl cellulose (TAC) film, which is used to protect the PVA polarizing film inside liquid crystal polarizing films and is suitable for devices such as televisions, displays, laptops, etc. Since establishing a TAC film production factory for LCD in Ulsan, Xiaoxing has been producing TAC films. Due to the establishment of TAC 2 factory in Yushan in 2013, Xiaoxing currently has an annual production capacity of 110 million square meters. With the technological development of the electronic materials industry, Xiaoxing is also developing new thin films based on TAC thin film technology, expanding to various optical thin film markets.  
Dahui Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Dahui) was established in 2006 and is a Taiwanese manufacturer and seller of TAC films. It is a subsidiary of Shin Kong Synthetic Fiber Co., Ltd., a major PET film manufacturing company in Taiwan's chemical fiber industry. Since then, Dahui has been promoting the development of optical adhesive sheets. Dahui is committed to the research and development, manufacturing, and sales of TAC films. Currently, Dahui has obtained certification and usage from most polarizer manufacturers. In May 2007, the parent company Shin Kong Synthetic Fiber acquired LOFO High Tech Film GmbH (hereinafter referred to as LOFO) from Germany, and officially began the development of TAC film for TFT using LOFO's equipment and development personnel.
China LeKai was founded in 1958 and is affiliated with China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. It is a modern enterprise that focuses on research and development, manufacturing, and service in the fields of printing and imaging materials, high-performance film materials, and image information materials. China LeKai's TAC film has two series of products. The first is TAC film for polarized glasses, professionally known as eyeglass film (colorless, colored). The product type belongs to cellulose triacetate (TAC) film. Mainly used as a support for eyeglass lenses. Baoding LeKai New Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as LeKai New Materials) is a subsidiary of LeKai in China and one of the companies producing TAC films. LeKai New Materials was established in 2005 and is a high-tech enterprise specializing in high-performance film materials, optoelectronic materials, electromagnetic wave protection multifunctional films, anti-counterfeiting functional films, and coating materials.
